Camp
SAMM (Singing, Acting, Movement and Musicals) is a new musical theater camp
for boys and girls ages 6-12 who are interested and dedicated to the art
of performing. This camp is being offered for only three weeks: July 10-14,
July 24-28, and July 31 - August 4. Camp is held at The Longfellow Club,
524 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA. Space will be particularly limited for
this camp so please enroll early. |
Hours
are Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm and lunch is provided. Extended care
is available from 8-9am and 3-6pm at a cost of $6 per hour. Campers are
supervised at a ratio of 6:1. Extended care activities may include basketball,
wiffle ball, dodge ball, arts and crafts, quiet board games, and outdoor

Camp
tuition is $245 per week (if paid by 4/1/00); $270 per week (if paid after
4/1/00). No jeans please. |
Wear
comfy clothes for movement. We welcome dance shoes, but sneakers are okay. |

forms, fill in the requested information, including all required signatures,
and mail in or drop off with your check. |
Singing
This
component focuses on proper breathing technique and vocal projection. Campers
learn to turn their voices into instruments of music.

Acting
This
component will be particularly strong due to Samantha Hammel's intensive
background in all aspects of theater performing and production. Campers
will learn the basic components of acting, perform some scene study and
educational theater games.

Movement
Campers will learn popular dance steps
from Hip-Hop to Broadway. Moves include those currently seen on the Broadway
stage and on tours of popular recording artists.

Meet
Our Staff |
Samantha
Hammel has seven years of ballet, tap and jazz training including five
years of private vocal and theatrical work under Marsha Vleck and the Walnut
Hill School. Samm has taught drama and tap and the Dancer's Workshop for
two years and led a hip-hop and drama program for the past year at The Longfellow
Children's Center. Professional performance credits include New York (Off
Broadway and Regional) and Disney World. Theater credits include Jesus
Christ Superstar, Love's Labours Lost, Annie, Carousel, God, The Complete
Works of William Shakespeare...Abridged, and Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory. Founded "The
Friends of Broadway" in 1998. Samm loves children and theater and
is excited to being Camp SAMM! |
Cara
Leonard has studied tap, jazz, ballet, and toe at the Dancer's Workshop
in Sudbury for the past 10 years. At DW, she has helped with birthday
parties and teaches master classes in musical theater. Previous shows
include The Friends of Broadway Sing Broadway, Annie, Carousel, Meet
Me in St. Louis, and Pinnochio. Cara is a marvel with kids
and has enough enthusiasm to brighten anyone's day. She can't wait to
help launch Camp SAMM!
Candace
Maurer
Candace has never been on stage before, but loves children and theater
just the same. Candace was the stage manager for The Friends
of Broadway Hit Hollywood and will return to FOB in the Fall of
2000. Candace is excited to be teaming up once again with Samm, Cara
and Melanie.
Melanie
Cohen
Melanie was Assistant Stage Manager for The
Friends of Broadway Hit Hollywood and will return to FOB in the
Fall of 2000. Melanie has years of experience with children as a baby-sitter
and at the Plaster Craft party where she works. She's ready to pitch
in to get Camp SAMM off to a great start.
